The phrase ‘termites’ could make patrons run

Real estate agent CHRISTINE SHAW explains the advantages of a house pest and termite protection before a sale. This is a sponsored post.

The positive thing about being known as the bush capital is that we don’t have any of the traffic jams of other capitals. Where else can you cycle in Yarralumla three kilometers from Civic and see a building nowhere?

Christine Shaw

The practical meaning of a bush capital means we share our homes close to nature – bluetongue lizards, wombats, kangaroos – and those pesky termites.

When it’s time to sell and the building inspector finds a hollow sound in the baseboards or architraves, it could mean termites.

The universal plea is always: “But we get inspections every year!”. This is promptly followed by my saying: “Pest inspections or heat-sensitive termite inspections?” Often the answer is “pest inspections”. Two very different services.

Our Canberra Pest Inspectors are great and provide great service. However, a termite specialist with thermal sensing equipment is required to determine if there is termite activity behind the plaster of paris.

So many of us in our region live near reserves and waterways, and many houses could be near rotten stumps that have not been sanded. The nest can be up to 50 or 100 meters away.

To my horror, an arborist recently told a customer to keep filling the tree stump with water in the coming months to cause the sides to collapse instead of paying to grind the stump. It’s like putting up a “Termites Welcome” sign as they are attracted to water and soft wood. My advice is never to have a tree felled unless you can also afford to grind the stump.

The mere word “termites” can get buyers going. However, I have seen time and time again how the owner deals with the situation which can still lead to a good selling price.

In one recent situation, a building inspector noticed a hollow sound in an architrave. My client was so determined that she would not pass the problem on to a future owner. She called Richard from Dr. The termites weren’t in the house, they were in the fence. My client then paid an additional $ 5,500 for an eight-year termite perimeter protection system. Two weeks after Dr. We sold Maks at a very good price before the auction.

If you want to protect your possibly most expensive asset, the cost of an annual visit to a termite specialist is minimal.

Do not hesitate to contact Richard by Dr. Contact Maks Pest Control at 6255 3255 or killbugs@bigpond.net.au – he can spend any amount of time chatting about these pesky termites.
