ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) – Many people itchy going outside and gardening once the weather improves, but supply chain issues affecting lawnmowers and similar items can leave some people stuck in the weeds.
“We just can’t get anything,” said Casey Mathieu, owner of CCR Sales & Service in Essex Junction. Mathieu says that with more people staying home last year, tractor and lawnmower sales increased 40%. And that low inventory was made worse by ongoing supply chain issues related to the pandemic. “The demand has not decreased. Production went down. “
The situation is similar at The Small Engine Company Inc. in Colchester. “Sales are very high as long as we get the product we need,” said Adam Porter of the company. He reckons that the shortage of new mowers will make the repair shop even busier. “There will be some people who will have to fix because they can’t find what they want.” Porter says you should at least take care of your products until things catch up. “I think it’s going to get worse before it gets better.”
Back in Essex, once it’s in inventory, it’s a waiting game. “It’s slowly seeping in, but we don’t know what we’re going to get or when we’re going to get it,” said Mathieu. He has a message for customers who may be on the fence. “If you’re looking for this year, get in and get it now because it is only a matter of days before we start to end.”
