The luxury of staying in a hotel is not having to clean your sheets, wash your towels, or look at the piles of dirty dishes that have piled up by the sink. There is one major downside that we keep in mind when it comes to staying in a hotel… bed bugs.
If you don’t know, bed bugs are small round brown and red insects that feed on human and/or animal blood. Bed bugs are common in hotels as they usually spread through travel from infested areas. According to the Bed Bug Lawyer Group, an average of 68% of bed bug infestations are reported in hotels. These cases are not unique to low-end hotels either, many 5-star properties fall victim to infestation.
They are incredibly small, so checking for bed bugs is not that easy. Luckily, TikToker @juiceboxdiaries posted a video with a simple tip on how to spot bed bugs before you sleep in that hotel or Airbnb you just rented.
The woman simply takes a large jug of 70 percent isopropyl alcohol — also known as rubbing alcohol — and attaches a spray nozzle to it. She sprays the bottle all over the fabric bed frame and waits a few minutes. After waiting for a while, the woman begins to examine and what do you know … a bunch of bed bugs crawls out.
Next time you travel and are staying in a hotel or rental car, be sure to bring some rubbing alcohol with you!
