Good night. Sleep well. Don’t let the bugs bite! If you live or travel in any of these cities in Canada, Orkin Canada says you have a higher chance of getting up in the morning with nasty rashes.
Bed bugs, the insects that live on the blood of humans and animals, are efficient hitchhikers, and Orkin Canada, the country’s largest pest control provider, has published its fourth annual list of the best bed bug cities based on the number of commercial and residential bed bug treatments, carried out by the company between January 1 and December 31, 2020.
Toronto tops the list, with Sudbury and Oshawa taking second and third place. Scarborough, North York, and Etobicoke appear in the top 20. Given that Scarborough, North York, and Etobicoke are part of Toronto, rather than separate cities, the error problem in Toronto must be really bad.

If you don’t want to take Cimex lectularius (bed bug) home with you as a travel companion, then
- Examine bags and clothing after your trip. Bed bugs can be identified by noticing tiny dark spots, poured skins, or live bugs.
- Avoid unpacking on the hotel beds and do not put luggage on your bed or furniture to unpack when you get home.
- Wash and dry potentially infested bed linen or clothing on the highest heat setting.
