Takoyaki is definitely a very tasty Japanese dish. If you’ve never heard of it, takoyaki is dough balls that have been pan fried. Once you bite into it, you’ll reach the filling of your choice (often squid). It is usually topped with two sauces, a brown sauce, and mayonnaise. Bonito flakes are sprinkled on top to add another dimension of flavor. Bonito flakes are dried fish flakes and “dance” when exposed to heat.
A man in Kedah, passing by handle @ Nanash711 on Twitter, shared how he loves to eat takoyaki with extra bonito flakes. However, he had forgotten what the dried fish flakes were called When he ordered takoyaki, he got creative and thought of something that was similar in texture and color. He thought long and hard and finally found an object that resembled bonito flakes and is the wings of flying termites! In his order, he made a specific request that said:
“I want more of what looks like termite wings.”
That simple tweet went viral, of course, with 18,000 likes and 12,000 retweets. Many internet users have also indicated that they see the similarity between termite wings and bonito flakes.

One thing is for sure, bonito flakes definitely taste and smell better than flying termite wings!
