PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia is one of the top cities in the United States for termite treatments, according to Orkin. Philadelphia was ranked 17th in Orkin’s rankings, two places more than last year.
Orkin said the number of termite treatments in Philadelphia rose 40% from 2020 to 2021.

The ranking is based on treatment data from cities where Orkin received the most first-time treatments from clients in 2020.

Orkin says with more people at home in 2020, termites were seen more often than in previous years. In addition, it was a record year for storms and hurricanes.
“Weather conditions have a direct impact on schools of termites,” said orkin entomologist Glen Ramsey. “Most underground termites swarm in spring and summer, while drywood termites usually swarm in late summer and fall.”

Miami, Los Angeles and Tampa Bay were the top three cities for termites – in that order for the third time in a row.
