CLEVELAND, January 6, 2021 / PRNewswire / – A new analysis by the Freedonia Group’s $ 2.4 billion The U.S. Household and Garden Pesticides Market Finds That Increased Gardening During the Covid-19 Pandemic Increased Demand for Garden Herbicides, Insecticides, Fungicides, and Other Pesticides in 2020:

  • Gardening boomed nationwide during the initial stages of the lockdown, but as many gardening supply retailers reported record sales, products such as seeds were also sold out.
  • Home and garden pesticide suppliers like Scotts Miracle-Gro saw healthy year-over-year growth in their consumer segments in the second and third quarters of 2020. Many industry participants also recorded strong sales in the summer and autumn.

A quarter of adults in the United States started gardening during the pandemic

The increase in gardening was mainly driven by people who had more free time at home. 26% of the adult respondents agreed August 2020 Edition of the Freedonia Group’s National Online Consumer Survey, which reports that they have planted a food garden because of the coronavirus pandemic. However, many consumers also faced supply chain issues during this period and growing their own food offered a sense of comfort and security. As a result, the growth in the vegetable garden was particularly strong.

Although some new gardeners are not expected to return to the hobby in 2021, gardening is likely to stay above pre-pandemic levels through 2024, as increased interest in home-made food production continues and remote working likely increases will persist to some extent.
