Lamborghini celebrated the United Nations World Bee Day with its own population of 600,000 bees. While the need to go green is paramount in the automotive industry these days, they aren’t the only brand reaching out to our pollinating, buzzing friends for help. Bentley started a similar project last year.

World Bee Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of bees and other pollinators for our survival as humans. Lamborghini’s current population of 600,000 bees lives very close to where their favorite Italian cars are made.

The Italian car manufacturer started a biomonitoring project in 2016 with the installation of an apiary with eight beehives in Lamborghini Park in Sant ‘Agata Bolognese. The apiary now houses 12 beehives and is important in understanding how the environment affects the environment by studying the behavior of bees, honey and wax. Lamborghini is carrying out the study together with entomologists and beekeepers.

With the help of the Audi Foundation’s video cameras inside and outside the beehives, environmental pollutants are examined. It has helped improve the environment around the Sant ‘Agata Bolognese factory.

Lamborghini already has certification that proves it is a carbon neutral company, a title they have been able to maintain despite doubling their manufacturing facilities. The Italian automaker doesn’t plan to stop there, however. The supercar brand also conducted a study of individual bee colonies. Unlike social bees, solitary bees tend not to fly that far from their hives. This study aims to help identify environmental pollutants that are closer to the factory.
