Athens-Clarke library closes after bed bugs found on chair – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATHENS, Ga. — The Athens-Clarke Public Library on Baxter Street will be temporarily closed after officers found bed bugs in the building.

The library said it found bed bugs on a second-floor chair Thursday and closed the building for the safety of visitors and staff.

“Someone spotted one and our pest control supplier confirmed it. We are working on a plan to resolve the issue and hope to reopen soon. We will update as more information becomes available,” the library wrote in a Facebook comment.

The library’s website states that it will remain closed until at least Sunday. All changes will be published on the website.

During the closure, the library will not charge any late fees and reservations will be extended. The library has postponed a book sale planned for this weekend.

TREND STORIES:

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, bed bugs hide in a variety of places when they’re not feeding, and their large size makes it easy to hide in small spots.

“Bed bugs can be difficult to find and identify due to their small size and habit of hiding. It helps to know what they look like, since different life stages have different shapes,” says the agency.

The EPA says if you think you’re seeing a bed bug in a public place, notify building staff so they can take the necessary steps.
