CrEATe Lab instructor helps students cut lemons and learns about knife safety during the Fall 2022 CrEATe Lab series. The nutritious coking program for 10-17 year olds returns on February 4, 2023 at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas (ASC).

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Arts & Science Center’s (ASC) hit CrEATe Lab cooking series is back, teaching students not only how to prepare nutritious meals, but also the importance of making nutritious choices. Aimed at 10-17 year olds, the program aims to teach various life skills through cooking, including confidence, dealing with the unknown and trying new things.

Registration for the CrEATe Lab series in winter 2023 is now open. The series consists of seven sessions from 1pm to 3pm on Saturdays 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th February and 4th, 11th and 18th March. The cost is $35 for all seven sessions, and half stipends are available. Capacity is limited to 10 students.

Faith Anaya and the staff at her Kids Cook cooking school in Little Rock! make their food know-how available.

The theme of the recipes for this series is “Cook what we grow and grow what we cook”. The course covers a variety of skills including cooking safety, food science, reading nutrition labels, food careers, trying new foods and gardening. Each CrEATe Lab series also includes a community service component. For this series, ASC will partner with Ambassadors for Christ (AFC) to distribute food to those in need in our community.

The planned topics in this series include:

  • Where does food come from?
  • Gardening – Grow what you cook
  • Community Service – Children cook for a good cause
  • farmers market
  • Gardening – cooking what you grow
  • The Science of Nutrition: Nutrition Talk
  • A highlight for students and their families

At the end of each lesson, students take away containers of food they helped prepare to enjoy at home.
