Sessions on Louisiana’s Super Plants and Growing Orchids Without a Greenhouse will be the topics for lectures on September 2nd hosted by the East Baton Rouge Master Gardener Association.
The lectures – about an hour each – begin at 6:30 p.m. at the East Baton Rouge Central Branch Library, 11260 Joor Road. The lectures are free and public. Seats are limited.
Louisiana gardener Donna Montgomery will begin the discussion of reliable and beautiful plants that were selected as Super Plants by LSU AgCenter this year for their superior performance in Louisiana growing conditions.
Then master gardener Terry Rehn speaks about successful orchid cultivation without a greenhouse and provides information about the right lighting, watering, temperature, fertilization and humidity as well as easy-to-grow varieties.
The next meeting in the EBRMGA library series will take place on September 16 in the regional branch library of the EWC Bluebonnet. Presentations will be on “Native and Commercial Soils, Fertilizer Bases and Other Additive Options” and “Lawn And Garden Maintenance During The Cool Season”.
The association also sponsors plant health clinics at local garden centers and the Red Stick Market, works with school and community gardens across the community, and conducts plant sales at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden. All EBRMGA activities generate volunteer hours that help the AgCenter siphon federal funds to support its research activities.
