A “dirty” Thai restaurant and takeaway in Shepherds Bush with “mouse droppings in the basement” received the worst possible food hygiene rating.
The Thai Rice Restaurant at 238 Blythe Road received this rating following an inspection by the Food Standards Agency on March 15, 2021.
The restaurant has been criticized for not keeping records and for having foods that were “unsuitable” or out of date on the premises.
There are only four restaurants in the Hammersmith and Fulham counties that, at the time of writing, currently have the lowest possible hygiene rating of zero, meaning there is an urgent need for improvement.
At the request of the Freedom of Information (FOI) to Hammersmith and Fulham Council, details of the food hygiene report were made available to MyLondon.
In the report, the inspector lists a number of issues that resulted in the lowest food hygiene rating. These included:
- Pad Thai sauces are kept at the wrong temperature
- Mouse droppings in the basement
- Food packaging that has been kept on top of a dirty trash can and under an electronic insect killer full of insects
- The same cleaning clothes that are used for dirty and clean areas
There was also a case where ready-to-eat lettuce was left in a sink next to raw, thawing chicken.
When MyLondon contacted Sakda, the owner of Thai Rice Blythe Road, he said they have made changes since the damn inspection.

He said, “When the last hygiene check was carried out, we were during the lockdown and we weren’t really running normal business and lacking staff.
“The inspector’s visit was also during our renovation of the entire kitchen.
“Therefore, at that point in time, I was unable to meet all the requirements and regulations. After that, we have now done all the special points to achieve food safety hygiene and comply with the necessary regulations. We are waiting for the food hygiene department to visit again. Hopefully they’ll come back soon to get the rating again. “
Thai Rice has six other restaurants across London including Maida Vale, Portobello Road and Newark.
