A Scottish grandmother’s daughter, covered with painful insect bites, was horrified to find a dirty mattress hidden in the new mattress her mother had bought.
Jaye Bannon bought the orthopedic bed on her mother’s behalf from Furniture Scotland after finding the company on Instagram last month.
The 30-year-old shared how the bed and mattress arrived in sealed packaging at her home in Glasgow on March 14 and the goods appeared to be in near perfect condition.

But Yoker’s Gran Susanne McKee soon noticed insect bites on her face and body.
Her family believed that insects came into her room because she slept with the window open.
But the 51-year-old kept waking up with the unexplained clues, and when she noticed a crack in the mattress lining, she decided to pull on it.
She was horrified to discover that the new mattress was padded with fresh felt and material – and underneath was a dirty, mold-covered mattress that was badly stained.
The family claim they were forced to throw away clothes, carpet and other items when they discovered bed bugs crawling around the room.
Daughter Jaye said, “I found the bed on Instagram and ordered it through a WhatsApp call:” They said it was a brand new bed and mattress. When it came it looked beautiful.
“There weren’t any problems with the bed – there were just a few small spots where you could see the felt hadn’t been pulled properly over the frame, but once it was done it was fine.

“The mattress was in a sealed package that we opened.
“Then my mother got bites all over her face. After a few days she noticed them.
“I thought it was because she slept with the window open, so she kept it closed for a couple of days, but she still got it.
“She said something was bothering her with the mattress and when she was making the bed one day she saw a small crack in the lining and then she saw what was under it.
“It’s an old mattress that is covered with felt and placed on top of other material. It was terrible.
“There was storage space under the bed that was filled with my mother’s summer clothes and a large bag of shoes that had to be thrown away.
“We also had a brand new rug and underlay that we had to tear up and throw our backs out.
“She also had to take her couch out because she was in bed and then went on the couch so we have to clean it up.”

A spokesman for Furniture Scotland based in Glasgow accepted that they had delivered the defective goods but said they did not know that the mattress had been recovered.
They said, “We delivered the mattress to her, but we had no idea that the mattress was being recovered.
“We have been trading for eight years and have never heard of it. “We take the manufacturer’s word that everything is brand new and up to the standards we agreed with the factory.
“In terms of the solution, we offered her a full refund, as well as the cost of the pest control and the new carpet as soon as we were made aware.”
They added that they had recalled the row of mattresses immediately and an investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
