PATTAMBI: In one bizarre incident, rodents reportedly nibbled off the face of a woman whose body was being held here in the morgue of a private hospital, following which the Kerala Minister of Health requested a report from the District Medical Officer (DMO) on Wednesday.
Sundari, 65, was hospitalized two days ago with a heart condition and died on Tuesday, her family members told reporters.
“Since we don’t have space at home, we wanted the hospital to keep the body. The authorities kept the body in the morgue. But when we reached the hospital today to take the body, the face was covered and when we were asked, the hospital officials informed us that rodents had eaten it, “said a relative.
When she found out, the state’s Minister of Health, Veena George, asked for a report from the DMO, who then visited the hospital and inquired.
“There was an omission on the part of the hospital. We will report to the Minister of Health,” the DMO said.
The body was later cremated.
