A Chinese takeaway owner tearfully apologized to his customers after a video showed a rat darting around open containers of food in the garden.

The footage of Jin Ocean in Hull’s Hessle Road, filmed by a neighboring resident, was shared by hundreds of people on social media sites, with many customers expressing their horror.

It appears to show rats walking around the outside of the takeaway, with one in a plastic basket left in front of a side door in the garden.

Other clips from the footage show a large silver bowl of raw chicken next to the same basket, as well as a large bowl of chips that was also left in the garden. Both are revealed.

On Monday July 12th, the manager said he was “very sorry for our customers”.

He said the food was put outside for a few minutes while the kitchen was being cleaned and the person in charge has since been fired for it.

The manager sounded emotional and said, “We will never do it again. It was a mistake and he was fired.

“The rats came from my neighbor’s garden. He’s got three feet of grass and I complained to him about it and he then videotaped it when the food was outside for two minutes.

“The employee who did that has already left. We never put chicken outside and will never do it again. Our kitchen is an open kitchen and it is very clean.

“I’ve been here for 16 years and everyone can see that my kitchen is clean. I’m pretty sad.”

He said his own garden was being tidied up and he had an ongoing contract with pest control for the rats, which he believed was due to neglect of the neighboring property.

Jin Ocean was last inspected by Hull City Council on February 25 of this year, where inspectors gave him three stars out of five, meaning “generally satisfactory.”

Food hygiene and safety was rated “fair” while “trust in management” was rated “some”.

The diner’s website specializes in authentic Chinese cuisine: “Our chefs are known for their excellent Chinese cuisine, when it comes to food, we are experts in choosing color, aroma, taste and flavor.

“We believe that food is not just a taste, but also a work of art because of its aesthetic value.”
