The city-owned Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel at 2101 N Oak Street and the city of Myrtle Beach are being sued by a tourist who says he was bitten by bed bugs during a visit in 2022.
Charlie Daniel Jr., a Lexington County resident, sued the convention center hotel Monday for his May 2022 stay, according to the Horry County Public Index. Daniel Jr. calls for a jury trial.
The City of Myrtle Beach, which owns the convention center building and hotel property, is also listed as a defendant in the case.
The ad reads: On May 2nd, Daniel Jr. was bitten by bed bugs in his room while he was sleeping. The bed bugs were found in the mattress, carpet and bedding.
Daniel then informed management about the situation. His stay was from May 2nd to May 5th, 2022.
Daniel hired Trevor Eddy, a Colombian attorney specializing in bed bug and hotel cases. Eddy filed the complaint last week.
The complaint lists the following causes of action and seeks remedies: Mr. Daniel seeks remedies in court to include negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, building liability, breach of contract and unfair trade practices.
As a result of the incident, Daniel Jr.’s injuries resulted in medical expenses and physical, mental and emotional pain, the filing states.
