WARR ACRES, Oklahoma (KFOR) – A Warr Acres woman says the bed bug infestation in her home is affecting her cancer treatment. Not only have her family struggled with constant bug bites, she says they are now harassing the hospital.

Janice Morgan, 68, said the extra time healthcare workers have to spend cleaning up due to her family’s bed bug problem is wasting the hospital’s time, energy and resources.
“The bites are terrible and they’re consistent,” said Janice. “Our health will deteriorate drastically and mine the fastest because I have cancer.”

Her granddaughter Autumn-Rain Morgan said the bed bugs were all over her home in Warr Acre.
“They’re on fabrics, surfaces, beds, sofas, love seats, blinds, curtains, pretty much every surface,” she explained.
She stressed that her infestation at home is now interfering with her grandmother’s breast cancer treatment, as hospital staff spend a lot of time cleaning her waiting room and operating room.
“They were concerned that the OR might be at risk for the other patients that followed,” Autumn said. “They explained that the treatment to clean the OR would take over an hour. They were concerned that transmission might occur, which is entirely understandable. Notoriously difficult to detect, they hide in everything. So they wanted to make sure none of their other patients who may have more critical surgery are unaffected.”
“They had rules to prevent harm.” Parents of a teenager killed in an accident took the wedding venue to court
She also worries that the bed bug bites could cause her grandmother to get infections.
“For someone who’s going through chemotherapy, their immune system is already compromised,” she continued. “It could go further. It might make it even harder. So she may need to stop the chemotherapy, wait for it to heal, and then start again. That can take weeks. That can take months. And that’s not something that has to wait. She has to deal with that in order to live a full and happy life.”

Her family is hoping someone can step in to help them pay for the pest control they can’t currently afford.
“If a pest control company were willing to donate their time and services to heat treatment, that would be the only thing that would help the level of infestations we have,” Autumn explained. “Heat treatment, heating the house to a certain temperature for a long period of time, is the only way to solve the problem in the long term.”
She said they are also open to donations and loans for heat treatment. The offers they’ve received for it range from $3,000 to $4,000, money they don’t currently have.
