Bed bug found in King Library

On January 24, Janitorial staff at the King Library found a bed bug on the first floor near the circulation desk.

During their usual morning cleaning, staff found a lone bed bug dying. Nick Kneer, strategic communications coordinator for libraries at Miami University, said administrators immediately contacted their supervisors and engaged Miami’s Physical Facilities Department (PFD). Kneer said PFD searched the area and found no other insects but sprayed the first floor as a precaution.

Kneer said PFD believes someone put the bug on her backpack. King will continue to be closely monitored over the next few days.

“The staff are doing a great job,” Kneer said, “and I think the fact that they found it [and] It was pretty impressive because personally I wouldn’t have known what it was if I found a bug, but they said, “Let’s check again to make sure what that is.” … and then they ran up the chain .”

Although the circulation desk was closed and staff at the Howe Writing Center were told to work remotely today, according to an email, the King Library is still open to visitors.
