Lodge employee shares how one can verify your room for mattress bugs

A hotel worker shared some of her top tips for travelers to check if the room they’re staying in might have bed bugs.

Travel expert Halee, who has worked in the industry for 15 years and lives in the US, has published a list of things you should do “before you even unpack”.

“The first thing you want to do is make sure your room is dark. Turn off the lights, close all the blinds and use the flashlight on your phone,” she explained in a video about her tick tock Account.

“And while everything is off, come under the covers here… you’re going to check on all the creases here on the bed.

“She [bed bugs] usually like to hang around in the corners and the folds. Also, make sure there is a mattress topper.”

She added you should look for “blood stains” for signs of bed bugs.

“Even if you don’t see any insects, make sure you’re checking for stains. bloodstains. Because that’s not a good sign either,” she said.

In a follow-up video, Halee said if you find bed bugs at your hotel, you should “document everything” and then request a new room on the “other side of the hotel.”

“Remember, just because they’re in one room doesn’t mean they’re in all rooms,” she added

Bed bugs are insects that usually feed on blood at night. Their bites can result in a number of health effects, including skin rashes, psychological effects, and allergic symptoms. Bed bug bites can cause skin changes ranging from minor redness to noticeable blisters.

“Bed bugs are literally my worst nightmare,” one person said. “Yep, I’ll put my luggage in the bathtub and check the beds and furniture! I’m terrified of bed bugs,” wrote another.

While another person warned, “I work in pest control and it will shock people how many hotel rooms have bed bugs.”
