Lady suffers extreme burns after attempting to rid automotive of mattress bugs

A woman from Detroit, USA, was badly burned after setting her car on fire while trying to rid it of bed bugs.

The 31-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, told police she had a panic attack when she found bed bugs in her vehicle on July 27, The Detroit News reported last Thursday, July 29.

To get rid of the insects, she poured alcohol into her car and set it on fire. However, the woman also caught fire.

The police arrived on the said day around 1.40 p.m. to support the local fire brigade in fighting the fire.

The woman has since been admitted to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment. Other than second degree burns, no further details about her condition were disclosed.

The Oakland Township Fire Department is still investigating the case, according to Newsweek last Friday, July 30th. The fire department has not yet commented on the incident, along with the local sheriff’s office. Dana Cruz / IB
