Karen Gillan has found a good life since moving to the US – growing her own vegetables.
The Inverness-based Avengers and Jumanji actress said her busy schedule gives her little time for hobbies, but she found a new passion for gardening in Los Angeles.
She is now looking forward to enjoying the fruits of her labor and enjoying her own home-grown vegetables.
Karen, 33, said, “I don’t have any hobbies other than acting – because that’s my hobby. I love it. But I recently started gardening.
“I grew all kinds of herbs and carrots. I don’t know if this will work, but I’ll let you know. “
Filmmaker Karen, who stars with Games of Thrones’ Lena Headey in the new action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake, said her earliest memory of performances goes back to when she was sung as a young child.

She said, “I remember my father giving me a karaoke machine – one of those things that you could sing through but also record on tape.
“That was my first introduction to the idea of recording something and then listening to it again and it’s there forever.
“I remember getting so obsessed with it – it was unreal.
“I had these little diaries from childhood and wrote every day, ‘Record, record, record…’ I don’t know what I was recording. I was just talking into the microphone and recording myself gibbering. That, combined with my father’s massive interest in music, introduced me to the world of performance.

“Then I graduated from karaoke to video camera. My parents gave me a used video camera for my birthday and that was my new darling. I would make horror films around my house.
“That was when the obsession began. So it makes sense that I now work in an industry in which I mainly do that. “
Karen’s big break came when she was 21 and when Doctor Who’s companion Amy Pond was cast alongside Matt Smith.
She told Foxes magazine, “It’s one of those life changing, instant things. For example, you fall asleep one night and wake up in that role and it just changes everything. “
