Grounded is already an excellent little survival game and always impresses with the continued support and love of the team behind it. When the game finally releases, there’s a good chance our already formidable list of the best survival games for Xbox will be dominated. The January 0.6.0 content update is now available.

The full changelog for Grounded’s January 0.6.0 content update includes:

New features

  • Barbarian Perk: Club damage increased

Changes / tuning

All platforms

  • Equipped items no longer take up space in the backpack
  • Equipped items remain on the player after death. Every device suffers little damage to durability after death

Networking

  • The contents of the container inventory are no longer replicated to customers until they are needed (an optimization).
  • More reliable network calls from clients to the server
  • The amount of network data sent between different systems has been reduced

Other

  • BURG.L chips now award science when they are returned, regardless of whether the corresponding BURG.L quest is active
  • Mint Mallet was renamed “Mint Mace”.
  • The equipment for lazy bees can now be analyzed to unlock the non-lazy recipes

struggle

  • Bone weapons have a little less durability
  • Most unblockable creature attacks can now be blocked with shields (still unblockable with weapons).
  • Pollen can now be thrown
  • Previously equipped off-hand items that were replaced by a two-handed weapon will be restored when a one-handed weapon is upgraded
  • The arrow you nocked on your bow reflects the type of arrow ammunition you selected

interface

  • The POI notification has been changed to be more responsive and better looking
  • Notifications will now show what’s in the queue to improve feedback on this system
  • Saving game screenshots now works with logout-save
  • Rest / Set Respawn UI adjustments
  • A New Resource queue will appear in the HUD if you are picking up new items faster than the HUD can display notifications for them
  • Revised the layout of the Operating System Configuration menu to improve the display of status effect icons / details
  • Weapons and arrows embedded in creatures will not show their floating symbol until the weapon / arrow comes loose. This cleans up some symbol spam if you use a bow
  • Items dropped into the world using the temporary loot bag model (armor, etc.) are shown with their item icon above

world

  • Nectar now appears on flowers instead of under them
  • Creatures fade / fade in as they approach their descent distance to prevent visual popping (currently only works on the host).
  • Bratburst’s visual effects go better with the ingredients they’re made from
  • Restore Backpacks has been added to the Game Preview Debug menu to restore stuck backpacks
  • Busted acorns can drop more clams

building

  • Buildings are less likely to be invalid when placed in structures
  • Incomplete buildings are more visible
  • Floating markings can now be built in the lower pond

Creatures

  • Creature Perception: Player sounds now decay linearly, as opposed to all heard player sounds, which have the same value regardless of distance
  • Wolf spider listening range has been increased from 2500 to 5000 to accommodate the change noted above

  • Foundations are no longer invalid if other foundations are snapped into place that protrude too far from the ground
  • Customers can now empty canteens
  • Autosaves no longer cause performance degradation
  • Fixed an issue where clients could not appear in games with a huge player base

game

  • Fixed a crash where customers were participating in a saved game where their bag of loot was being collected by another player
  • Incomplete doors no longer have a collision after loading
  • The player can no longer eat or drink objects while sliding or zipping
  • The player will now drop all dragged items when starting zipping
  • The player can no longer attack while sliding
  • Air bubbles no longer form in large clumps the first time they approach their source
  • A collision is now applied to door frames
  • Fixed an issue where Craft and Equip could result in a random inventory item being equipped
  • Characters no longer fall when a save is loaded in which they have zipped (not retrospectively).
  • Drinking dew while in transit is disabled to avoid issues where the dew will go away without you receiving moisture
  • Structures that were anchored to certain objects such as baseball or flagstone are no longer considered unsupported
  • Fixed an issue where players who were kicked lost their inventory in the saved data (does not retrospectively restore inventory for players who were kicked before 0.6.0)
  • Fixed an issue with dropping items in a full container with a controller
  • Dragged items will drop correctly when knocked down in multiplayer
  • The dropped web displays properly on clients

Items / equipment / resources

  • Muscle sprouts will now appear again
  • Dirty droplets no longer look like clean ones when you drink them
  • In some situations, floating foundations can no longer be built underwater
  • Buoyancy tokens can no longer be placed on land
  • Objects with no physics no longer cause the bounce pad to ricochet
  • The previous weapon for the “Previous Equip” hotkey is now retained across all saves
  • Shovel + now has a really faster animation
  • Some interaction problems with FrankenLine have been fixed
  • Soda droplets will reappear more evenly
  • Punch-O-juice drops really disappear after 72 hours so that new dew can drip out
  • Objects floating on the water now disappear when needed
  • Bratbursts now work visually correctly for customers

world

  • Mosquitoes are more consistently happy after boops
  • Aphids now point in the right direction when descending blades of grass
  • Klee is now properly saved and restored
  • Maggots can no longer be dug up with the repair tool or the mint mace
  • Fixed an issue where sleeping creatures would sometimes appear awake on clients
  • Mites sometimes no longer animate as if they were walking without moving

user interface

  • The field of view sometimes stops swinging when you sprint sideways
  • Fixed an issue where the black “Low O2” vignette was not working on clients
  • Fixed issue where 3rd person camera would be on an odd slope after respawning
  • The “health bar” for creatures that cannot be killed (BURG.L, Koi fish, etc.) is no longer displayed.
  • Fixed an issue with pixelated lighting artifacts that appear on weapons when exposed to sunlight
  • Fixed some rendering issues with player eyes around lights

Audio

  • Fixed submerged audio getting stuck on customers after death if they died underwater
