Peru’s Fujimori leads protest for the cancellation of votes as Castillo nears victory

LIMA (Reuters) – Peruvian right-wing presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori, who is likely to lose a runoff against her socialist rival, led a protest Saturday in Lima, again calling for the cancellation of votes that did not favor her. “If the (election) jury analyzes this, the election will be reversed, dear friends,” Fujimori told thousands of supporters, many of whom waved the red and white flag of Peru. Front runner Pedro Castillo, a member of the left Free Peru party, is on the verge of being named the Andean country’s next president despite Fujimori’s unfounded allegations of fraud as the count from the second round of voting earlier this month draws to a close.
