Just in time for National Garden Week, Claire Ranson, founder of the Lazy Flora plant subscription box, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about caring for indoor plants. The subscription box offers a variety of outdoor plants, indoor plants, and edible plants for those who may not have access to a garden center. Indoor plants have become increasingly popular over the past year as more people spend time indoors.

“When these plants come in the summer, they absolutely love the increased light level.”

Claire said the increased temperature and light mean they are also using a lot more energy and water compared to the winter months.

The horticultural expert added, “It’s just really aware of what the plant looks like, how it grows, how fast it grows, and how you recreate the natural conditions you would find if it grew on a mountain in Hawaii or in a desert .

“That’s the best advice I can give – learn a little about where the plant came from and what will make it really happy, to make it believe it’s in its natural environment.”

Claire said the reason she started Lazy Flora was because she moved to a property with a balcony and dreamed of filling it with plants.

However, when she lived in a downtown area, she said she found it “impossible” because she did not know which plants to get and she could not get to a garden center because she did not have a car.

To get around this, she eventually had to ride on the bus with sacks of compost and fragile plants.

Years later, she still couldn’t get rid of the idea and decided to start Lazy Flora.

Lazy Flora offers subscriptions to indoor, outdoor, and dining plants, as well as one-time purchases for avid gardeners who want plants delivered to their doorstep.

Every plant that lazy flora offers has a plant care guide that describes what conditions your plant will best thrive in.

Even those with a reputation for killing plants can find out how often their plants need watering, what humidity they prefer, and when to bloom.

National Gardening Week runs from April 26th to May 2nd.
