April 14 – NANTICOKE – The discovery of bedbugs in several areas prompted Lucerne County Community College to temporarily relocate some staff this week.

According to a statement by the college, the physical facilities department was notified on April 7 that bugs were found in the advisory office in the Campus Center building. Bed bugs were also identified in the lobby of Building 1 on the same day.

The college hired exterminator was on site within two hours to treat the affected areas. However, more bugs were found later.

“On Monday, April 12th, an additional bug was discovered in the Student Success Center,” the press release said. “As an additional measure, the college made provision on Tuesday April 13th to cover the entire first floor of the campus center.” The exterminator recommended leaving the treated areas exposed for four hours.

“As a precaution, all employees and services from the first floor of the Campus Center will be temporarily relocated to other buildings on Tuesday, April 13th and Wednesday, April 14th,” the press release said. “This way, the exterminator has sufficient access to inspect and treat the entire area. The lobby of Building 1 is also inspected and treated again if necessary.”
