Dad says children live in a bed bug-infested house

A resident of a homeless shelter reported a suspected sex offense and a father says children live in an insect-infested hellhole. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s daily briefing.

Stranger at my door

A Farley Court resident reported that a strange woman pounded on his door at 3:20 a.m. According to the police, she seems to have mental health problems.

The officers advised her to leave the scene.

The resident said she came back 2 hours later and knocked on the door again. The officers couldn’t find them.

Sex crimes in the homeless shelter

A resident of the 17thNS The homeless shelter on the street reported a sex offense just before 4 a.m.

She told officers that she went to a clerk’s room to ask for a drink, but she felt dizzy and sat on his bed. She claimed the man kissed her and she told him it was inappropriate and returned to her room.

The woman said she wanted to leave the shelter, but the staff member told her residents that they would not be able to walk after 9:00 p.m. But when she said she wanted to go to the crisis center, he let her go.

The man said most of it was true, but he didn’t kiss the woman. He said she came into his room after a nightmare.

The woman told the police that she no longer wanted to go to the crisis center and that she simply no longer wanted to speak to the employee. The officials advised her to contact the shelter administration if she had any complaints.

Suspicious activity

Shortly after 8 a.m., a caller reported a man in all black who was standing screaming near the CVS.

About an hour later, the Dollar Tree at 5NS Street told of a man in black who sat on the floor in front of the shop, berating and yelling at people.

Father reports that children live in a bed bug infested house

A concerned father asked the police to conduct a social screening on children living in an apartment on Thomas Avenue. The man said his daughter told him that there were bed bugs, other bugs and mice all over the house and that she had caught head lice.

The father said he was waiting for a call back from the health department and the CPS. The officers went to the house, but there was no answer at the door.
