Dawes receives distinction

Dawes Arboretum, 7770 Jacksontown Road SE, Newark, was recently recognized by Ohio Native Plant Month as a native plant learning center and celebrates with events that draw attention to the arboretum’s many spring wildflowers. The arboretum is hosting a virtual happy hour Thursday at 6 p.m., encouraging guests to sip cocktails and learn about Ohio’s many native wildflowers and their historical uses. The cost is $ 7. Visit the Forest Garden in April between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM in April to speak to arboretum staff about native plants and receive a native seed packet (while supplies last). Franklin Park blossoms, flutters

Celebrate spring indoors and outdoors Franklin Park Conservatory, 1777 E. Broad St. The “Blooms and Butterflies” exhibition, which is now celebrating its 27th anniversary in the winter garden and runs until May 31, is free with admission. Hundreds of butterflies fly through the Pacific Island Water Garden. Outside in the Grand Mallway and in the kindergarten, also free with admission, the 125,000 flowers from “Columbus Blooms” can be seen, which will be on display until the end of April. The Conservatory also offers a range of virtual gardening classes, including Composting 101 on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Vegetable Gardening on Thursday at 6 p.m. ($ 25 or $ 20 each for members). Garden lessons abound

Those who want to delve a little deeper into gardening can take a look Columbus Garden School1350 E. Cooke Road. The school offers a wide variety of online courses, from Grow Your Own Asparagus on Saturday at 9:30 am for $ 15 to a four-session course on “Raising Beef Chickens” starting at 7 pm on April 19th for 75 USD. Herbal classes, sale

This spring will take place in Ohio Herb Center110 Mill St., Gahanna. On Thursday at 7pm, discover how to use garden herbs in salt and sugar and take some samples home with you. and make rock garden markings on April 29th at 7pm. The price for each is $ 25. Spring Festival at Lowe’s

Lowes will dive into spring at its Spring Festival 2021 with garden-related freebies. Register online to receive free goodies like a Mystery Garden Pinata Kit that includes “Mystery Seed Bombs and Growfetti”. or a Butterfly Quest Kit, including wood, paint, brush, and seeds. Swap plants on foot

If you have too many plants and are looking for another one, take your labeled spare parts with you for free Plant swap Saturday at 3 p.m. at Beechwood Trails Park and Pool, 248 Needles Drive, Pataskala. More information is available at www.beechwoodtrailsparkandpool.com.

School garden classes

Teachers and others looking to create school gardens can sign up for a number of classes sponsored by 4-H Project Green Teacher. The courses take place from June 9th to 11th from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm via Zoom. The cost of the series is $ 25. Visit franklin.osu.edu for more information.
