Swarms of rats have taken over dirty and abandoned properties when the neighborhood turned into a cesspool.

The infestation was revealed when the rats began to evacuate the abandoned houses and are now visiting occupied terraces across the street.

Daily Record reports that as a group of ten vermin huddled in a garden shed, the rats “ravage the lives of the residents.”

Affected residents also claim that one jumped out of a gray trash can in the face of a woman, another flew out of a closet in a house and a brazen rat took over a bird table to feast on.

Renfrewshire Council is accused of leaving Maple Drive and has not picked up trash in months.

Blocks on neighboring Cedar Avenue and Elm Drive had previously been demolished and new homes built.

But there was no movement in Maple Drive. 42 apartments have been on board and abandoned for almost two years.

Garbage including sofas, tables, a mattress and other garbage is piled high in places. Thieves have also gone in to rip out metal for scrap.

Gordon Stewart, 40, said, “These rats are having a party – they’re not even afraid of barking dogs. No council members come up here to clean up. My wife is out every day to fill bags and help.

“You have to come here and look at the conditions we have to live in. It’s a shame. People in delivery vans see that the place is so messed up and just throw away more trash and rubble. And taxi drivers went to the bathroom. “

Alan Scobie said MSP helped Tom Arthur clean up the area a year ago – but nothing has been done since then.

He added, “After Tom got involved, the council promised to keep an eye on the area, which they don’t have. The Council has been told there is a problem for months and they have taken no action.

“They were also asked to remove overgrown hedges up and down the road that were rat protection and did nothing.”

Mr Arthur, the region’s former MSP and now SNP candidate, is committed to finding out what’s going on.

He said, “My office will be in touch with Mr. Scobie and raise the matter directly with the council.”

Renfrewshire Council claimed work to clean up the mess was under way.

A spokesman said: “Tipping flies is illegal, unsightly and harmful to the environment and should not take place at any time for any reason.

“Our team started removing the flies from tipping today. Once it finishes, it will make sure that any pest issues are fixed and consider what other measures can be taken to prevent this reoccurrence.

“We encourage residents to report any incidents of fly tipping and any evidence of who carried it out, and we will do everything we can to ensure those responsible are caught.

“We are working hard to improve our local environment in Renfrewshire so let’s work together to prevent flies from tipping over in our area.”
