Gardeners should also regularly check their planters for stagnant water to prevent mosquitoes from multiplying, said Mr Ng.
“It is good for gardeners to involve their neighbors before they start gardening along the corridors as these are common areas,” he told CNA.
“We also encourage good gardening practices, such as keeping gardens clean and manicured for everyone to enjoy, and sharing crops with immediate neighbors whenever possible to build neighborly bonds and camaraderie.”
SOLVING NEIGHBORHOOD PROBLEMS
Ms. Ho from SG Farming in Apartments believes that most gardeners are “considerate people” and advised them to talk to neighbors if they quarrel.
“If the neighbors are sensible and ready for dialogue, we listen and work things out together. A simple willingness to listen sometimes solves the toughest problems, ”she said.
“Although I love plants and gardening, I also pay attention to space or what other people have in common. And through this mindfulness I think that a lot of potential misfortune is avoided. “

People’s Action Party city council coordinating chairman Lim Biow Chuan said residents who have problems with overplanting the corridor should “politely explain” that the corridor must be kept free of obstacles.
If that fails, Mr. Lim, who is also a MP for Mountbatten SMC, said the city councils will get community leaders to speak to the parties involved.
Other options are community mediation and, finally, the Community Disputes Resolution Tribunal.

“But disputes between neighbors are difficult to resolve unless both parties are willing to compromise and have a certain give and take,” he said. “After all, the neighbors meet every day.”
Ultimately, said Mr Lim, the city councils tried not to remove any plants unless they obstruct the corridor and cause security problems.
The leaders of the Labor Party city councils did not respond to requests for comments.
ENOUGH SPACE FOR MORE HOME GARDENS?
Amid the national surge and interest in home gardening, Ms. Ho believes that there may not be enough outdoor space for everyone.
“But with cheaper technology like grow lights, more growers have brought gardens into the home,” she said.
“These lamps transform racks into vertical beds. Every free wall or corner is a potential new garden.”
Mr Lim, the MP said he would also encourage residents to consider working with residents’ committees to set up a community garden.
