William “Bill” Robert Zarrilli, a lifelong resident of Darien, died peacefully on December 8, 2022 surrounded by the warmth of his family after a bitter battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 72.

William Zarrilli dies

William Zarrilli, 72, died December 8. His funeral will take place on Saturday 17 December.

He was born on October 14, 1950 to Francis and Madeline Conti Zarrilli. On September 23, 1978, he married Mary Louise, his best friend and the love of his life.

William had many friends and was a good and kind man who loved his family. Throughout his life, Bill has traveled extensively with his family, spending time on Block Island, Cape Cod, and Bermuda, among many other travel destinations.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures of good food, good friends, and family. Bill loved being at home growing vegetables, making “Sunday sauce,” or sitting by the fireplace while Frank Sinatra played the record player. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Dad”.

Bill particularly enjoyed Thanksgiving and the Easter egg hunt, which he lovingly prepared for the grandchildren. His heart was filled with pride as he attended children’s sporting events, watched baby steps, and shared pool times and family barbecues. William was a man of strong faith and a member of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk.

William graduated from Darien High School in 1970. He followed his brother into the auto industry. He owned a mobile station on Post Road in Darien and operated as Sound View Tire and Auto Parts. He later moved into the auto parts industry in Stamford and Norwalk.

William is survived by his wife Mary; his daughter Michelle Leigh Otto, her husband Sean and their granddaughter Savannah; his sons: Jeffrey William Zarrilli, his wife Ashley; and Michael Robert Zarrilli, his wife Jennifer, his grandsons Mason and Logan, and his granddaughter Mia. He is also survived by his sister Lavinia Zack and her husband William, and several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his beloved golden retriever, Sunny Beau. William was predeceased by his parents and brother Frank M. Zarrilli Jr.

A Christian funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, with burial immediately following at Spring Grove Cemetery.
