Kathy Roberts will introduce Safe Gardening for Seniors, a free virtual program on May 20th at 6:00 pm for the Wyomissing Public Library.

Roberts, a health and wellness educator at Berks Encore, will share gardening practices, professional advice, and safety tips.

The library will host a plant swap on May 22nd at 9:00 am in the library grounds at 9 Reading Blvd.

Gardeners and plant lovers are invited to bring a maximum of 10 plants, including vegetables and flowers, and trade for others. The submission deadline for plants is May 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All plants must be in containers and labeled with the plant name and growing conditions.

Leesport Museum

The Leesport Museum, 128 Main St., will host an open house and book signing on June 6th from 1pm to 4pm

Celebrate World War II week with author Susan Snyder, who compiled a book of letters her father-in-law Luke Snyder wrote while she was stationed in Italy.

This everyday account makes a reality of the trials a soldier goes through and the letters that long for his home and his wife.

ServSafe classes

The ServSafe Food Safety Manager course, run by Penn State Extension, is held on June 8th, 9 am-4pm and June 15th, 9 am-1pm in Lebanon County, 2120 Cornwall Road, Lebanon

The exam will take place on June 15 at 11 a.m.

In courses taught by certified ServSafe instructors, participants will learn how to prevent food contamination by properly receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, refrigerating and serving the food and using appropriate methods to disinfect food service facilities.

Upon completion of the course and passing the multiple choice exam with a score of 75% or higher, participants will receive a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate. This certification is valid for five years.

The course fee of $ 185 covers the cost of the latest edition of the ServSafe Manager book, exam, answer sheet, and study materials. To register, visit extension.psu.edu/servsafe or call 877-345-0691.

Safety seat tests

Reading-based Troop L State Police will conduct free security checks on cars in conjunction with Click It or Ticket at Troop Headquarters, 600 Kenhorst Blvd.

Electric vehicles

The Energy Co-op is hosting a free webinar on May 20th at 6:30 p.m. with the latest information on electric vehicles.

This event will focus on the opportunities and challenges electric vehicles present in southeastern Pennsylvania and across the country, organizers said.

The moderators include:

  • Lee Berger, a Phoenixville-based reader who has been driving all-electric cars for eight years.
  • Amy Bernknopf, assistant director of transit, bicycle, and pedestrian planning for the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.
  • David Dlugosz, who works as a transportation engineer for the Philadelphia Department of Streets.
  • Rob Graff, who works at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission developing initiatives to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, and prepare the region for the long-term effects of climate change.

Boyertown Women’s Club

Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club members recently donated $ 8,200 to Susan Lopez, director of the Boyertown Community Library.

The money was collected through a basket raffle in March. According to the organizers, it was the club’s largest fundraiser with around 240 participants.

Yard sale

The Stouchsburg Community Yard Sale will take place on June 5th from 7 a.m.

All proceeds go to upgrades at the Marion Township Playground.

Results of Earth Day

According to organizers, Chuck’s Auto Salvage, which has locations in Douglassville and York, had about 200 households recently attended the Earth Day event

Chuck has collected 521 tires, 506 gallons of oil, 92 gallons of antifreeze, and 57 batteries / miscellaneous parts, the company said.
