The Fiji Times » Termite-affected urged to make cases known

Fiji’s Biosecurity Agency has urged residents whose properties are infected with termites to report their cases in advance so proper assistance can be provided.

In response to questions sent by this newspaper regarding concerns from local residents, BAF stated that the north-based team has been reinforced with appropriate knowledge and skills to provide better services.

“BAF welcomes affected communities to make their specific cases known so that appropriate guidance and support can be provided within BAF funds,” it said.

“The team in the North has been reinforced with the knowledge and skills to address Asian subterranean termite problems.

“Additionally, resources have been allocated to provide better services to affected communities and all of BAF’s services to AST stakeholders’ stakeholders are non-chargeable activities.”

BAF added that AST-affected areas were visited daily and any complaints received were dealt with in a very short time, usually within 24 to 36 hours.

“Following an initial visit, future scheduled trips for reviews and follow-up treatments will be completed within a month.

“The multiple revisits will continue until the facility is cleared of known AST issues.

“BAF has undertaken all activities within its resources to manage and contain the AST issues in the North. With the support and guidance of a consultant, BAF would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the process and seeks to understand the complainant.”
