A TESCO store has made the decision to close after evidence of rodents was found in its store.
Tesco Express on Old New Milton Road, New Milton, recently closed its doors to allow for “essential maintenance” to fix the problem.
The local authority, the New Forest District Council, said it will work with Tesco to ensure the premises are “thoroughly cleaned and disinfected”.
A pest control company is monitoring the store for signs of rodent activity ahead of the store’s reopening, which is believed to be in about two weeks.
A spokeswoman for New Forest District Council said: “The environmental health team was informed by Tesco that they had made the decision to close the store following evidence of rodents and to undertake refurbishment work.
“The store was not formally closed by the council and officials have been working with Tesco to ensure the premises are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected during the closure, all points of entry for rodents are verified and that the pest control company continues to monitor for signs of rodent activity.
“Officials are visiting the site and have also checked neighboring premises for signs of rodents.
“The team will continue to monitor the situation and are working closely with Tesco to ensure work is completed before the store can safely open.”
