Roaches, flying insects, and sewage backup in restaurants

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Lots of bugs and sewage backlog are the reason why three restaurants have temporarily closed this week.

Sweetfrog Frozen Yogurt on Fleming Island

The first inspection at Sweetfrog Frozen Yogurt on Fleming Island found live bugs and cockroaches in and under the yogurt dispensers.

Then live cockroaches were found in several of the machines during the follow-up inspection. The original report said the issues were related to repeat breaches.

Sweetfrog Frozen Yogurt is still closed.

Andaman Asian Bistro

The Andaman Asian Bistro in Saint Augustine was shut down for sanitation but also subpoenaed for over 30 violations.

In addition to sewage flowing through floor drains, inspectors say employees have touched ready-to-eat feet with their bare hands and food has not been stored safely.

The report also said the restaurant has been operating under an expired license since June last year.

According to the latest report, the restaurant needs another follow-up inspection.

Inspectors found over 45 flying insects throughout the kitchen and three live cockroaches during their visit.

Piccadilly’s cafeteria reopened the next day.
