Trader Truong Hong An in Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province said: “It is now the termite mushroom season that is crowned king of all mushrooms, but it is VND 1.2-1.4 million despite the high price very rarely per kilogram.
When the rain continues for several days, this species of termite secretes an enzyme around its nest. As soon as the sun comes out, the mushrooms shoot out of this area in spots that are sometimes several feet long.
The mushroom grows naturally so the vegetable traders are unsure whether it will produce any yield. From the beginning of the harvest until now, An has only collected 0.5 kg of mushrooms. The termite mushroom season usually ends in the 6th lunar month, the price of termite mushrooms drops to VND 600,000 to 700,000 per kilogram or even VND 200,000 to 300,000 per kilogram at the end of the rainy season.
A termite mushroom season lasts an average of three months. People can harvest up to 2-4 kg per day, mostly in the high hills of the Giong Trom, Cho Lach, Mo Cay Nam and Mo Cay Bac districts.
Currently, some people can breed termites, but the taste is not as good as natural mushrooms.
