To help well-deserved area students in their dream of getting a post-secondary education, the Bank of America Client Foundation, Bank of America, NA, Trustee has awarded $ 20,000 to Coalition for Safe Children. These funds will provide direct scholarships to 15 to 20 students participating in SCC’s Achievers program as they continue their education.

To receive a scholarship, teenagers must actively participate in the Achievers program, year round, through monthly career and college readiness workshops, Achievers school assemblies, financial aid and financial literacy workshops, and a variety of nonprofit events.

The Achievers program enables vulnerable, minority, and other disadvantaged students to set and achieve goals in both their educational and personal lives, and encourages continued growth in personal development, college preparation, community service, and leadership , cultural enrichment and career opportunities.

The program is open to all middle and high school students in Sarasota County. Around 200 students are currently involved.

In an ongoing effort to support those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, JFCS the Suncoast will offer 1,800 meals in five different locations during the week of March 29th.

The Chicken Nights will be prepared by Paradise Grill in Nokomis, and JFCS will work with other nonprofits to distribute them in Venice, North Harbor, Englewood, Newtown and Bradenton.

All locations use low-contact drive-through or walk-up to distribute meals based on availability.

Two outstanding ones Boys & Girls Club Members recently received a four-year college scholarship to a private university in Pittsburgh Drs. Robert and Patricia Gussin.

Jakobie Green and Lei’Asha battle will join nine more Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sarasota and DeSoto Counties Alumni as Drs. Robert and Patricia Gussin donated fellows at Duquesne University.

Jakobie is a senior at Booker High School and a long-time member of the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club and the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club. Lei’Asha is a senior at Riverview High School and a member of the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club.

Jakobie plans to practice commercial law and aspires to become a lawyer before reaching his long-term goal of becoming a judge or executive director.

Lei’Asha dreams of turning her passions into businesses, including an art gallery, and giving something back to her community.

Fahey pest and turf solutions donated his services to save the 1920s Sarasota clubhouse Maine Colony Historic District.

The wooden building imported from Maine was destroyed by termites, and members of the Phillippi Crest Club worked to raise support for camping in the building.

The clubhouse neighbor, Chris Zelinski, who recently assumed liaison responsibility for Fahey, offered to meet with club representatives.

Giacomo Minafra led the project after it was approved by Fahey’s general manager Kyle Varona and owner David Pomfret.

The clubhouse has been a social gathering hub for generations, and a new generation of children contributed artwork to raise funds for the clubhouse preservation project.

Coldwell Banker Realty’s Bradenton office participated in the Human society Walk-A-Thon on March 20th.

The Coldwell Banker Manatee team also collected pet food and donations from the Coldwell Banker display table during the event.

During the pandemic, many pets were brought into the shelter because their owners were no longer financially able to look after them.
