In one bizarre incident, rodents reportedly nibbled the face of a woman whose body was being held in the morgue of a private hospital here, prompting the Kerala Minister of Health to obtain a report from the District Medical Officer (DMO) on Wednesday. Sundari, 65, was hospitalized two days ago with a heart condition and died on Tuesday, her family members told reporters.
“Since we don’t have any space at home, we wanted the hospital to keep the body. The authorities kept the body in the morgue. But when we got to the hospital today to take the body, the face was covered and when we asked, the hospital officials told us that rodents had eaten it, ”said a relative. When she found out, the state’s Minister of Health, Veena George, asked for a report from the DMO, who then visited the hospital and inquired.
“There was a mistake on the part of the hospital. We will report to the Minister of Health, “said the DMO. The body was later cremated.
