PINEY FLATS – The Rocky Mount State historic site is gearing up for the annual Woolly Days and Garden Arts Festival this weekend.

When and where: The event will take place on April 17th and 18th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Rocky Mount State Historic Site is located at 200 Hyder Hill Road in Piney Flats, halfway between Johnson City and Piney Flats.

What to Expect: Woolly Days features hand shears from Rocky Mount’s herd of Cotswold sheep, 18th century wool processing techniques and other spring activities on a border farm. The Garden Arts Festival is a festival for everything to do with gardening – from plants and handmade items for the home, garden and gardener to delicious food and informative talks and tours. Dealers and exhibitors, including local tree nurseries, traditional artisans, community groups, and food sellers, will be on-site. Historical history tours of the William Cobb House and historic buildings will also be offered throughout the event.

Explore history: This event is an opportunity for visitors to explore the site that was known before America and dates back to the Revolutionary War. Rocky Mount is home to the original capital of the Southwest Territory (1790-1792), and spring is the perfect time to explore the grounds.

Costs: Admission is $ 10 per adult and $ 8 per child. Children under 5 years of age have free entry. This event is free to Rocky Mount Historical Association members. Admission includes parking and access to all Woolly Days and Garden Arts Festival activities. A two-day weekend pass is also available online at www.rockymountmuseum.com at a discount.

Stay safe: In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Rocky Mount has adopted several safety protocols. The number of tickets is limited and the organizers ask that tickets be purchased in advance online or by phone. Social distancing is practiced as per Sullivan County’s mask mandate and face coverings are required to enter.
