OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A pregnant Oklahoma County prison inmate worries about the health of her unborn child after allegedly sleeping in a cell full of feces, black mold and bed bugs.

“She said there was mold, black mold. She said there is poop everywhere, pee everywhere, “Braylen Smith told News 4.

That’s what Smith’s friend Sherrite Locus claims she did in her cell in the Oklahoma County Jail while she was four months pregnant.

“She said the food she eats up there is awful. She can’t digest it. She’s pregnant, ”said Smith.

Smith is concerned about the health and well-being of her unborn child.

“It’s a terrible environment for them,” he said.

Oklahoma County Jail’s director of communications, Jessica Brown, told News 4 that after Locus complained about these conditions, she was moved to another cell.

“She thinks there was feces on the walls. I went and checked myself. I can’t tell if the poop is or not. I don’t know, ”said Brown.

These are issues that News 4 has told you about over and over again.

Bed bug infestation, black mold and inmates who were not fed on time were confirmed by health ministry investigators in an inspection report released in early March.

“Part of our problem is that we are low on staff, so we have to put our people where they are most needed,” said Brown.

This OSDH report had a period of 60 days, which expired at the end of May, to improve conditions in the prison or to file a complaint with the Attorney General or the Public Prosecutor’s Office

Oklahoma County Jail Trust chairman says major improvements are being made to the prison and the OSDH inspection deadline is approaching

Brown said they were ahead of schedule.

“We had already started some of the areas they thought or recommended we improve,” Brown said. “So we’re already ahead of the game there. We are currently putting this report together and it will be prepared in advance. “
