FAIRFAX, Va. – As spring steadily approaches, the pest control industry is gearing up for this year’s termite season. To raise awareness of these destructive pests, the Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which acts as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), is educating homeowners during Termite Awareness Week March 6-12.
This annual event, recognized on Chase’s events calendar, underscores the importance of monitoring for signs of termites and scheduling annual inspections to prevent costly damage to most people’s greatest investment – their homes.
“Termites are notorious for their destructive abilities, causing an estimated $5 billion in property damage in the United States each year, which is closer to $6.8 billion when adjusted for inflation,” said PPMA executive director Cindy Mannes. “We need other industry members to join the cause and educate the public about the complexities of termite infestation. By sharing compelling images and telling the true story of termites, we can show just how devastating this infestation can be, while also highlighting the importance of working with a professional pest controller.”
In honor of this national celebration, PPMA will launch media outreach and strategic social media initiatives on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube featuring content from PPMA’s popular large-scale termite campaigns, including Will They Eat It? and the Tiny Termite House. Pest control companies can get involved by including #TermiteAwarenessWeek on social media channels when sharing content about these destructive pests.
Mainframe subscribers also have access to an exclusive Termite Awareness Week toolkit at PPMAMainframe.org. These downloadable assets include a customizable press release, social media content, logos and headers, media training documents, and high-resolution photo and video assets. This toolkit was developed with the marketing needs of the industry in mind, allowing companies to use these materials for their own promotional efforts with customers.
