The year 2022 has been an eventful year, full of all sorts of significant events and news, and some of the most blatant stories have been some of the most memorable.
To say that 2022 was a strange year would be an understatement. While some have pushed the pandemic into the background, for others it is still very real. Either way, 2022 was an eventful and at times surprisingly gross year.
From rats to bed bugs to worms in pickles, these are some of the sickest stories of 2022.
Man finds a worm in a pickle and gets two coupons for his trouble
We’re putting this story at the top because this had to be the most puke-inducing story of the year.
We received an email from a pickle enthusiast who made a terrifying discovery while sitting down for a hearty snack.
Travis Taylor was the pickle enthusiast, and he avoided a culinary disaster by cutting his pickles in half before eating them. Unfortunately, we got to see what his dissected cucumber had in store for the rest of us.
Taylor bought Bick’s Baby Dill pickles and enjoyed snacking on them with some cheese.
“Luckily I sliced them up and found them that way,” he said.
He thought it was just some garlic at first, but it clearly wasn’t just garlic.
“You can see the worm fed on it before dying during the pickling process,” Taylor said.
After speaking to Smucker Co. about the pickle he was stuck in, the company offered him two coupons to get more pickles for free.
One thing is for sure: pickles would never be the same.
“Besides, I will never be able to eat a whole cucumber again; it must be sliced.”
Canadian Traveler Shares Airbnb Horror Story
Bed bugs make this travel tale an easy pick for one of 2022’s sickest stories.
A Canadian couple traveling with an infant were visiting San Diego for a wedding. And when they returned to their Vancouver home, they came back with more than memories.
According to Eugene Kaplan, it all started out great, but “it turned into a horrifying and horrifying experience.”
Two days into their Airbnb stay, the bed bug nightmare began. Kaplan said his wife woke up with “about thirty welts on her arms.”
He had a grape around his ankle. The Airbnb host denied they were bed bugs, despite having proof. Instead the host claimed it was an allergic reaction to the sheets and even came over and changed them for the guests.
Based on all the evidence, the host appeared to sincerely state that he had no idea this was happening and that it was just an unfortunate and traumatic circumstance for Kaplan’s family with no ill intent.
Stink bugs stink Metro Vancouver
Although this story focuses on Metro Vancouver, stink bugs are known to roam in many locations across Canada. They thrive in warmer temperatures, and much of BC experienced an unseasonably warm fall.
This led many to suggest that there was a stink bug epidemic in October, one of the warmest October months on record.
Stink bugs are so called because of their foul smell, and you don’t want to kill them if you come across one of these critters.
Large rat handled with forceps in UBC cafeteria (VIDEO)
This is probably the craziest story of 2022 for many, especially UBC students.
Imagine you are in your school cafeteria eating a meal you just received from a buffet restaurant. Then you look up and see the chef or waiter using tongs to get rid of a giant crawling rat.
Rough!
That was essentially the exact scenario that played out in January of this year.
Someone captured the video with a cell phone and shows a rat trying to climb into one of the eating areas before the clerk behind the bar uses a pair of tongs to get rid of it.
