San Diego, Calif., Feb. 9, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – via NewMediaWire – Menon Renewable Products (“Menon” or the “Company”), a global leader in disruptive animal feed technologies, announced today that toxicological studies will begin on rodents . The purpose of the studies is to determine the acute oral toxicity of Menon’s proprietary ingredient, which is made up of peptides and nucleotides to boost immunity and energy. The peptides have unique structures and sizes to enable rapid absorption into the bloodstream and protect the animal from infection. For the first time in the world, peptides of this type have been produced on a large scale and validated for multiple species on the planet. The studies are designed and conducted by the Center for Toxicology and Developmental Research (CEFT) at the Sri Ramachandra Institute for Higher Education and Research in India, using knowledge gained from years of experience with these products.

“After seeing promising results from testing our functional feed ingredients in other animals, we wanted to assess the possibility of developing a version that would be beneficial for humans,” said Dr. Suresh Menon, founder and president of Menon. “In larger animals such as pigs, animals fed our functional component continue to show increased functionality of the immune system against a number of different viruses and bacteria. This shows us that the ingredient could be a solution to improving immune function in many different types of life forms beyond eating animals. We plan to continue researching the potential immunity benefits of our proprietary ingredient in the coming weeks and months, exploring its use to combat SARS-CoV-2 and its variants either directly, as an adjuvant, or as an immune enhancer to reduce inflammation. “

The animals arrived at the facility in January and were quarantined for two weeks. After the quarantine period, the rodents begin the acute oral toxicity study, which involves mixing a large single dose of the ingredient in water and giving it to individual rats. The mortality is observed over 14 days. The second study to be conducted is a two-week dose-finding study (“DRF”). During the DRF experiment, Menon’s ingredient is mixed in water and given to individual rodents by oral gavage daily for 14 days. The test product is administered in low, medium and high doses and compared with a control group with regard to mortality, morbidity, body weight, feed consumption, hematology, biochemistry, autopsy, organ weight and gross pathology.

In addition, a genotoxicological study in the form of an in vivo micronucleus test is carried out. During this test, rodents will be treated with the test product to cause possible DNA damage. All toxicological studies are expected to be completed in early March 2021.

About Menon Renewable Products:

Menon Renewable Products, Inc. (Menon) was founded in 2013 by Dr. Suresh Menon and is based in San Diego, CA. Menon has developed a patented process that converts hydrocarbon-based sugar from agricultural raw materials into a functional animal feed component under the brand name MrFeed®. The ingredient not only overcomes nutritional inhibiting factors in many animal feed products, it also replaces various grains, related proteins, animal by-products, fish meal and other ingredients. MrFeed® meets the growing global demand for an abundant, sustainable, inexpensive and renewable source of animal feed. MrFeed® has been demonstrated in aquaculture, poultry and pigs (with other animal species currently being tested) and has shown superior performance compared to traditional feed in the areas of survivability, growth, disease remediation, FCR and general animal health.

About MrFeed®

MrFeed® is a disruptive technology that dramatically improves animal growth and gut health. By incorporating a spectrum of unique prebiotics, nucleotides and peptides, MrFeed® improves digestibility, promotes animal health and reduces the need for antibiotics and other disease control treatments. By using agricultural and related by-products, MrFeed® reduces the environmental pressures caused by the overuse of unsustainable animal feed ingredients (such as fish meal).
