Bed bugs in library books

Employees at two Sacramento public libraries discovered bed bugs in returned books.

Two libraries in Northern California this month discovered books apparently infested with bed bugs.

Employees at two stores, Del Paso Heights and Cooledge, found the insects and immediately quarantined the books, Fox40.com reported.

“We had an item in question in early July, and then, yes, in the past week we had some materials that had come in and they were quarantined and sent to quarantine,” said Karen Leland, the Sacramento Public Library’s safety and security manager.

One staffer said libraries have had problems in the past with bed bugs infesting the padding at the bottom of mailboxes. This padding is used to deaden the sound of books and materials falling into them. Libraries have since removed the padding.
