WICHITA FALLS (KFDX / KJTL) – A man from Wichita Falls is arrested by the fire department after being infected by bed bugs in his motel room that set the mattress on fire.
According to an affidavit, Michael Culipher is charged with arson, which is an apartment, a first degree crime. His bond is $ 25,000.
Booking in Wichita County Jail
On Thursday, September 2, the fire department responded to smoke and fire from a room at the Catalina Motel in East Scott. Upon entering, the firefighters found that a mattress was on fire.
The inmate, Culipher, was sitting nearby, and the fire department noticed he had soot on his face and hands.
They say he told them he used lighter fluid to set the mattress on fire because the motel management was not doing anything about the bed bugs.
The firefighter’s office was notified and when an investigator arrived he said Culipher had told him to take him to jail for deliberately setting fire to the mattress.
Culipher has noted previous arrests in Wichita Falls for resisting arrests and assaults.
