An established pest control company released its annual list of the Top 50 Bed Bug Cities last month, which included two major population centers in California. The highest-ranking California city on the list was Los Angeles (9th), followed by San Francisco (22nd). The list was compiled from bed bug data from inpatient and commercial treatments by pest control companies from December 1, 2019 to November 30, 2020.
Bed bugs are small, flat, parasitic insects that normally feed on the blood of humans and animals while they sleep. They are experts at hiding, which can make them difficult to find. The presence of bed bugs can be a constant nuisance as they can cause itching and difficulty sleeping in people who live in or visit an infested building. Some people may even experience allergic reactions to their presence.

Los Angeles actually lost 5 places and San Francisco lost 9 places. Despite these improvements, bed bug infestations are a major concern for hotels, resorts, dorms, and apartment complexes across the state. Treating a minor infestation is far cheaper and easier than treating the same infestation after it has spread further.
