Alf and Sheila Pierce have always had a love for plants and flowers.
When the duo moved from Stockport to Buxton seven years ago, they brought that passion with them and have now redesigned the community garden of their home in St. Anne’s House.
Alf, 83, said, “We worked really hard to plant things and bring color to the place. I think it looks great now. “
Home gardeners Alf 83 and Sheila 84 at Buxton St Annes have worked very hard in their garden.
In the garden they planted 12 rose bushes and have more than 70 flower pots.
“It’s a lot of work,” says Alf, who is semi-disabled and finds it difficult to stand for a long time, “but it’s worth it when you see everything in full bloom.
Sheila, who is 84 years old, worked as a florist before retiring and is out in the garden most days removing dead plants or weeding.
Alf said, “It’s something we both love to do. I used to have an allotment garden in Stockport and was always out there growing things.

“And since we moved here, it has become a project for us to do what we can in the space we have, and when the sun shines on the garden and the lilies are in full bloom, it is simply the most beautiful place. “
He added, “We do it for ourselves and for the other residents too and it’s nice to think that our garden makes the place a little bit brighter and happier and makes people smile when they see it.”
