A HOUSE FARMER donated a selection of gardening and planting tools to Durham Nursing Home to enhance residents’ outdoor activities during National Allotments Week.

David Wilson Homes donated the tools, gloves, watering cans and vegetable seeds to residents of the Four Seasons Hallgarth Care Home on Hallgarth Road, near The Drive at Mount Oswald.

With garden therapy reported to have provided much-needed meaningfulness to nursing home residents across the country while restricting family visits and day trips, the home builder’s donation was made to encourage elderly Durham residents to keep green fingers crossed as they start , a sense of normalcy again after the lockdown.

Sarah Hall, Hallgarth Care Home Manager, said, “The David Wilson Homes donation was very welcome and has given a number of our residents the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while growing their favorite vegetables.

“The seeds are now sown and we have no doubt that there will be great interest in the progress of our planter / allotment (s) in the weeks and months to come.”

As part of its ongoing support for the local community, Barratt Developments North East also runs its own community fund initiative in which the home builder makes a monthly donation of £ 1,000 to a different local charity.

Natalie Donnelly, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes’ The Drive at Mount Oswald, added, “We know how much time caring for our gardens can improve wellbeing while also making people feel more comfortable during difficult times like the past 18 months There is determination there, and National Allotments Week seemed like the perfect opportunity to encourage members of our local community to embrace their inner gardener.

“We hope the tools can be used well for the rest of the summer and beyond.”

David Wilson Homes’ The Drive at Mount Oswald project offers a range of luxury 4 and 5 bedroom homes less than 2 miles from Durham city center.
