Free gardening classes will continue on Wednesday June 16 in Our Garden, the demonstration garden established by the Bay Area News Group and managed by the Contra Costa Master Gardeners.
Last year’s schedule was canceled due to the pandemic and stay-at-home requirements, even though master gardeners continue to grow produce and maintain the garden on Shadelands Drive and Wiget Lane in Walnut Creek. Fruits and vegetables grown in the garden are donated to the Monument Crisis Center in Concord.
The garden, founded in 2009, offers free courses on sustainable gardening every Wednesday at 10 a.m. until the end of October. Master gardeners will talk about a variety of topics, including planting summer and winter gardens, composting, growing grapes, and keeping critters out of your garden.
Master gardeners also propagate various types of vegetables and ornamental plants that are offered for sale every week.
