Mother’s Day is getting closer and closer and with it the traditional beginning of the gardening season.
• For those looking to expand their foraging skills, the Columbus-based social media star Alexis Nikole Nelson (@blackforager on Instagram) features a zoom meet and greet, forage hunt, and cooking demonstration of vegan recipes made with ingredients sourced from the wild in central Ohio. • Take some plants to the Gardens at Gantz, 2255 Home Road, Grove City, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Volunteers will answer gardening questions and sell herbs, native perennials, rain garden plants and more at this 28th annual event, held in rain or shine. • The Ohio Herb Center, 110 Mill St., Gahanna, offers a double portion of private lessons on Saturday. At 10 a.m., learn the basics of permaculture, and at 1 p.m., learn how to create a container garden and keep it going throughout the season. Each class costs $ 30. • Are you looking for a way to work in the public garden? Planting day in Goodale Park, 120 W. Goodale St., takes place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friends of the park weed, pour and collect rubbish. Bring your own gloves and tools if you have them, or borrow some from friends. • It’s time to plant vegetables and Columbus Garden School offers a class for those who want to do this without using synthetic chemicals while not offering a banquet for invasive pests.
