A desperate farmer has built a makeshift mouse incinerator to save his crops while a raging rodent infestation ravages Australia.

The video shows thousands of mice being shot out of a grain elevator and into a blazing 44-gallon drum to burn the tiny creatures alive.

The farmer, just named Andrew, shared his makeshift fixture on TikTok with the clip going viral amid the devastation in New South Wales.

It was viewed five million times because it feared the mouse plague could destroy the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and last for two years.

Andrew claimed the mice infested the machines used to pump grain into a silo.

However, his rather sophisticated method of getting rid of the mice raised some eyebrows and attracted criticism.

Ten million rioting mice have sparked horrific outbreaks that stretched 1,000 km from Brisbane to Melbourne and tormented farming communities for eight months.

In just three months, two mice can ignite a colony of nearly 400 people and quickly spawn into the tens of thousands.

Andrew showed no remorse for his actions despite the online criticism – which showed how desperate farmers across Australia are becoming.

“I don’t like mice, but that’s messed up,” said one person, to whom he replied, “You’re messed up”.

He added, “Better than drowning them alive. ‘But most of them are dead because the snail is chopping them up.”

Another person added, “I’m not a vegan, but seriously, maybe we shouldn’t burn them alive?”

He replied, “Ok, how should I do that?”

Andrew also claimed he won an appeal against TikTok after the video was originally reduced to user complaints.

Xavier Martin, the vice president of NSW Farmers, said farmers would leave their paddocks to the mouse plague.

They fear that the plants sown there over the winter will simply be devoured before they can be harvested.

Mr. Martin said: “Without concerted agitation over the next few weeks, this could easily turn into a two-year plague event.”

And in a desperate attempt to stop the mouse threat, the government has secured 5,000 liters of the toxic rodent venom bromadiolone.

It is called “napalm for mice” – and is currently banned for agriculture across Australia.

The state has offered to make it available for free if the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Agency approves it.

Bromadiolone kills rats and mice by preventing blood clotting and can be fatal one day after consuming the poison, according to the National Pesticide Information Center.

The rodent plague has wreaked havoc on the east coast of Australia, decimated crops and smuggled its way through food stores.

The mice have also invaded homes, schools, and hospitals as they thrive after heavy rainfall and periods of heat and drought that have resulted in bumper crops.

A government-funded MouseAlert website shows mouse sightings have doubled since March – with cases increasing in and around Sydney.

Channel 10 News Sydney claimed the mice could now “march” towards “Australia’s largest city” to “invade” by August.

Farmers have shared pictures and viral videos showing mice pouring out of grain feeders and storage facilities.

A video previously published by Sun Online showed mice pouring out of a silo as workers tried to clean it.

The horror footage was shared on Twitter by ABC reporter Lucy Thackray, who said it started “raining mice.”

“Even if grains are in silos, mice can get on them,” she tweeted.

Xavier Martin, a grain farmer from New South Wales, told The Telegraph: “After more than eight months battling the growing mice population, farmers are still waiting for government support to hit the ground and provide practical support to our farming community.”
